NFC East: Cowboys have deep advantage in tough neighborhood - (08/25)

They seem to have it all. 'Seem' being the big word. For all their depth and talent, the Cowboys haven't won a playoff game in almost 12 years. Clark Judge says, even in a tough division, that 'should' change.

AFC East: Jet Favre a nice story, but Pats still team to beat - (08/24)

Musings and observations from an impressive Saints victory. - (08/24)

The Saints looked sharp last night.  The offense was clicking?except for a few wide receiver drops; and the defense was stifling (think getting-into-your-car-after-it?s-sat-in- the-sun-all-day type stifling).  Drew Brees was once again completely on top of his game, throwing accurately to a bevy of receivers.  Any you know what, the starting cornerbacks played great, too. It was [...]

    Preseason All-NFC South performers - (08/12)

There was a time several years ago when the NFC South was considered one of the most difficult divisions in the NFL.  The Bucs defense terrorized the league, Jake Delhomme was leading the Panthers to a Super Bowl and Michael Vick made defenders feel silly and slow.  Nowadays, the boys of the south don?t look so [...]

    Saints Season Preview Part 4 - (07/23)

This is Part 4 of a four part series preview of the Saints? 2008 opponents.  Part three can be found here.  Part 4: Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Carolina Game 13, Falcons:  Three-quarters of the way through the season my predictions thus far have the Saints sitting at 8-4, and 2-2 in the division.  A .500 record in the [...]

Shockey a huge addition for the Saints - (07/21)

If the Saints weren?t a legitimate threat to win the NFC before today, the most certainly will be after today. In a move that will have the Who Dat nation downing celebratory Abita beers for the next week, the Saints acquired TE Jeremy Shockey from the Giants for second and fifth-round pick in next year?s draft. This [...]

Saints Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) - (08/25)

The USA men's basketball squad wasn't the only team that got redemption when it won the gold medal at the Beijing Olympic Games on Saturday. OK, it wasn't the Olympics and it wasn't even a regular-season game. But the implications were very much the same for the Saints' defense after a ragged performance one week earlier against the Houston Texans. The Saints were seeking a little bit of redemption in their game with the Cincinnati Bengals. And considering that the starters were getting their last significant playing time before the regular-season opener on Sept. 7, they needed to come up big. It didn't matter that the Bengals didn't have star wide receivers Chad Johnson and T.J.

NFL 08: Healthy again, Bush driven to excel (AP) - (08/22)

So spectacular were some of Reggie Bush's long gains in college, so full of abrupt cutbacks, spins, leaps and sudden bursts of speed, that he began to draw comparisons to Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers. Bush, many thought, could be one of the greatest of all time. That was Bush's own stated goal when he turned pro following a Heisman Trophy-winning junior season at Southern California.

NFL 08: The story is star QBs, labor, ownership (AP) - (08/22)

Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady. The 2008 NFL season starts with a tale of superstar quarterbacks -- one back from retirement in new digs, the other two nursing injuries that probably won't keep them out but may hinder their effectiveness, especially early. But there are other clouds for the NFL as it starts its 2008 season.

Competition heats up among Saints receivers (AP) - (08/22)

Sean Payton's love for the passing game and Drew Brees' ability to throw the ball has produced fierce competition among receivers during the New Orleans Saints' past three training camps. Heading into the Saints' third preseason game at Cincinnati on Saturday night, the only certainty for the receiving corps is that Marques Colston is their leader.

Saints TE Campbell thriving in comeback (AP) - (08/21)

Coming back from a bad back is tough enough in pro football. So when Saints veteran tight end Mark Campbell finally returned in good health after missing all of 2007, only to see New Orleans trade for four-time Pro Bowl selection Jeremy Shockey, it had to feel like a kick in the back side, right? Not necessarily.

Porter getting chances with Saints (AP) - (08/19)

Tracy Porter is trying to be realistic. Like any pro, he'd like to start as soon as possible. It's not all that common, however, for rookies to start at cornerback, even for relatively high draft choices like Porter, who was taken near the top of the second round, 40th overall. "I'm definitely a young guy with a lot of experience I have to get under my belt, but I'm up to the challenge," Porter said...

Shockey hopes to play Saturday (AP) - (08/18)

Jeremy Shockey ran some plays with the first team offense in practice on Monday and appears on track to make his first appearance in a Saints uniform when New Orleans plays its third preseason game on Saturday night in Cincinnati. "Today was certainly more (action) than he's gotten and the plan is to get him in Saturday," coach Sean Payton said.

    Saints sign S Schulters (AP) - (08/18)

The New Orleans Saints signed former Pro Bowl safety Lance Schulters on Monday. The 33-year-old Schulters joined the squad on Monday, making New Orleans the latest stop in a career that has included stints with San Francisco, Tennessee, Atlanta and Miami. He was selected for the Pro Bowl in 1999 while playing for San Francisco.

Defensive tackle Hollis Thomas out 2 months (AP) - (08/14)

New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Hollis Thomas could be out two months with a right triceps injury, all but ensuring that top draft pick Sedrick Ellis will be thrust into a major role on the interior of the defensive line this season. Saints coach Sean Payton disclosed Thomas' injury on Thursday after the 12-year veteran had surgery to repair an injury that occurred during pass-blocking drills...

Saints DT Thomas out two months (PA SportsTicker) - (08/14)

The career of New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Hollis Thomas could be jeopardy after he tore his right triceps during a recent pass rushing drill, the Times-Picayune reported Thursday.

    A tale of 2 kickers, and Payton's tough choice (AP) - (08/12)

Saints WR Arrington sidelined by sprained toe (AP) - (08/10)

Saints rookie Adrian Arrington missed his second straight practice with a sprained toe Sunday and coach Sean Payton said the injury may be serious enough to sideline the former Michigan wide receiver for more than a week. The 6-foot-3, 192-pound Arrington had been making a strong case for a roster spot since his selection in the seventh round of the draft.

Bucs GM says no offer was made for Favre (AP) - (08/07)

No more rumors, no more speculation about Brett Favre. With Tampa Bay no longer a potential destination for the iconic quarterback coming out of retirement, a sense of normalcy returned to Buccaneers training camp Thursday. There was even a denial that the team was ever a serious player in trade talks with the Green Bay Packers.
