The Giants lost a lot more than a meaningless 10-7 preseason game to the Jets. They learned on Sunday that defensive end Osi Umenyiora will miss the entire 2008 season with a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee. The injury occurred with 10:48 remaining in the second quarter while chasing down Jets quarterback Brett Favre. He was merely brush-blocked by Jets left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson, but fell heavily and off balance. For a few seconds, it appeared as though nothing untoward had taken place and Umenyiora, in fact, took a few more steps chasing his quarry, but then he fell to the ground. He was helped off the field by medical personnel and did not put weight on the injured leg.
