Opponents might have to keep up with Joneses on kick returns - (08/25)

Wade Phillips would rather not put Felix Jones or Adam "Pacman" Jones in the line of fire as kickoff returners, but the Cowboys' options are limited. Miles Austin is out for at least a couple regular season games. Phillips doesn't expect Isaiah Stanback back for the opener, and there's a chance the second-year player will spend the season on injured reserve. So the coaches are considering using Felix or Pacman, who are the team's most dynamic return men, on kick returns. "We've got to consider it now," Phillips said. "It's a different set of circumstances."

Don't expect Terence Newman to play in preseason finale - (08/25)

Terence Newman returned to practice today -- and participated in everything except one-on-ones -- but probably won't play in Thursday's preseason finale. The point of having Newman sit out so long after pulling his groin a few days into training camp was to make sure he'd be completely healthy once the Cowboys hit Cleveland. It's not worth the risk of tweaking the groin to chip off some rust against the Vikings. "We still want to be careful with him," Wade Phillips said. Phillips said the Cowboys hadn't finalized plans regarding which starters would sit in the preseason finale, but count on several starters being spectators.

Coaches will consider three guys at left guard - (08/25)

Pat McQuistan got the first crack at left guard during today's practice, but the coaches will also consider Cory Procter and Joe Berger. Wade Phillips said the Cowboys will decide on a replacement for Kyle Kosier after watching the game film of Thursday's preseason finale against the Vikings. McQuistan, Procter and Berger will all get significant time at left guard. "I think the tape will sway us one way or the other or keep us on whoever we thought it'd be in the first place," Phillips said.

Flozell Adams not too worried about LG - (08/25)

Jacques Taylor and asked about the left guard situation. Taylor also took the opportunity to remind fans about the revolving door at guard in 2002. Anyone who can remember all five should click over and strut your Cowboys' knowledge.

Former Cowboys lineman Cornish dies (AP) - (08/25)

Frank Cornish IV, an offensive lineman on two of the Dallas Cowboys' Super Bowl champion teams in the 1990s, died over the weekend at age 40. Cornish was pronounced dead Saturday morning at a Grapevine hospital, where he was taken from his home in nearby Southlake. His death was caused by heart disease, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office found.

Pat McQuistan gets first crack at replacing Kyle Kosier - (08/25)

The Cowboys' initial answer to the question about how to replace Kyle Kosier is plugging in Pat McQuistan at left guard. McQuistan is working there with the first team during today's practice, which was open to the media for only the first 30 minutes (routine procedure from here on out). McQuistan has played primarily right tackle for the Cowboys, but he has worked some at guard.

Will Terence Newman be Cowboys' No. 5 WR? - (08/25)

He did go through the passing lines with the receivers at the beginning of today's practice. I'm just kidding about reading anything into that. Newman routinely does that when he practices. The news here is that Newman is practicing for the first time since pulling his groin during the first week of training camp. Not sure whether he'll play in the preseason finale, but it looks like he'll be ready for the season opener, as anticipated.

Fullback's nickname will change on game day - (08/25)

FB Deon "Cricket" Anderson and I made a very important decision today. He will be known as Pit Bull for 60 minutes on Sunday (or Thursday or Saturday or Monday or whatever day the Cowboys are playing). Cricket agrees that the nickname I gave him -- back story on that is here -- fits his goofy off-field personality. But he's a tenacious tough guy on the field, and crickets really aren't too intimidating. Ring of Honor candidate Daryl "Moose" Johnston has made that point several times, harping on the issue during the broadcast of the Dallas-Denver game. He confronted Cricket about it during the spring, and Marion "The Barbarian" Barber butted in the conversation. "That's my pit bull," Barber said. So there you have it. He's Cricket off the field, Pit Bull on it.

The Lunch Break: More Injuries - (08/25)

Derek Eagleton, Nick Eatman and Lauren Whitaker take your questions and review the team's depth at different positions affected by injuries.

Kyle Kosier: Three guys ready to replace him - (08/25)

LG Kyle Kosier has been inactive for only one game in his NFL career. He'll miss at least a couple -- and as many as five -- while recovering from a sprained right foot and hairline fracture. "It sucks, but what can you do?" said Kosier, whose foot "popped on me" when he took on a bull-rush in the fourth quarter against the Texans. "You move on, get better." Kosier also considers helping his replacement to be part of his job. He just isn't sure who that will be -- or doesn't want to tell the media. "Since Joe [Berger] has gotten here, he's a completely different player," Kosier said when asked about the man who has been playing left guard on the second unit. "He's ready. So is Pat [McQuistan], and so is Cory [Procter]. Whoever they put in there is going to be fine."

Isaiah Stanback wants to put off surgery until after season - (08/25)

WR/KR Isaiah Stanback is able to lift his arms to shoulder level, a good sign of progress after dislocating his left shoulder Friday night. His plan is to try to rehab the shoulder and play this season wearing a harness. Stanback will still have to get a second operation on the shoulder, but he wants to wait until after the season, as he did last year. "Everybody on this team plays with pain," Stanback said. "If that's what it's gotta come down to, that's what I gotta do." Stanback said it took him about 10 days to return to practice after suffering the same injury last season, so there's a chance he could be ready for the season opener in Cleveland.

Talkin' Cowboys: Updates On Kosier, Stanback - (08/25)

Mickey Spagnola and Rob Phillips recap Friday's preseason victory over the Texans and discuss new injuries to starting left guard Kyle Kosier and second-year receiver Isaiah Stanback.
