[NFL] Any way you look at it, Favre is one of a kind - (08/25)

We all know who Brett Favre is, what he represents, what team he'll really be remembered by, and everything that has to do with this summer-long saga that has, for the time being, been put to rest. But what you don't know is that Brett Favre is not Joe Montana. Not because he didn't win three additional Super Bowls or didn't have Jerry Rice, but because he, at 38, still has it. Brett is not Dan Marino. Not because he's better in every meaningful statistical category after passing Marino, and not because he actually won a Super Bowl, but because nearing the end of his career, he isn't playing with hobbled ankles. Our beloved number four is not John Elway. Not because the odds are against him to go out on top winning a championship, let alone two in a row, but because he isn't limping into the 2008 season, and he doesn't look like he's 50 when he's only pushing 40. Brett Favre is Brett Favre, and there has been no one like him, and undoubtedly we will never see anyone like him again. And because of that, I will explain to you why Favre and the Jets will shock us all.

[NFL] Fantasy Position by Position: Running-Back Breakdown - (08/25)

Anyone can analyze the quarterback position, mostly because youre usually only looking at one guy under a microscope. But take a look at the Oakland Raiders backfield, even for a second, and you have to start to wonder: Who is the starter, the third down back, and will it even matter? That's what happens when you have a sure fire talent, a couple of injury riddled busts, and a collection of all around solid talent at the position. It's not really about DO you have the talent, it's what you do with it. So, in doing my best from digging too deep in the cookie jar and trying to pretend like the Pittsburgh Steelers' signing of Mewelde Moore will actually shake your fantasy football world up, even a little bit, here is my perspective on each team's running back issues, by player, as insignificant as they may be.

[NFL] Sunday Night Football - (08/25)

To some, Sunday is a time to unwind. To many, it is a day of worship. I spend my Sundays relaxing while praising the football gods. It is an American tradition to participate in the great sport of football. Unlike with most other sports, you do not need to physically be in the game to be a football participant. It is as much of an experience for the player as it is for the spectator. The trials and tribulations experienced by players on field translate to fan emotion off field. Therefore, for this past November's Sunday Night Football game--this  season's undefeated team to beat, the  New England Patriots took on my favorite team, the struggling Philadelphia Eagles--I decided to focus on the onlookers of the game instead of on the game itself (being a fan of the game, this was harder to do than it may seem).

[NFL] 30 activities to pass the time until Kickoff - (08/25)

I've heard that there are two different times of the year.  There is football season, and there is waiting for football season.  With about 50 days left (depending on which day you read this) until the kickoff of the NFL season I thought it would be fun to list some entertaining activities to occupy your time.  Understand that these range from the mundane, to the ludicrous, to "Hey, maybe I could actually do that."  This column is all in fun and some of the activities listed should be performed at the readers own risk (of embarrassment). The following are in no particular order.

[NFL] Hall of Famer For Sale - (08/25)

Finally, we're making some ground. After all of the speculation, the he said, she said quotes and misquotes, we finally know the truth. Brett Favre wants back into the NFL, and the Packers don't want him on their team. While it doesn't appear likely that either side will be changing their mind anytime soon, (Brett is set on returning, and the Packers are focused on Aaron Rodgers) now is the time to start focusing on where Favre will be playing next season. The Green Bay Packers have emphatically stated they will not release Favre, in fear he could go to a rival and beat them twice a season. They probably would be reluctant to let him go to another NFC team, as well, in fear they could meet him in the playoffs. So, what then? Trade him to Baltimore and possibly see him in the Super Bowl? Ted Thompson is truly in a lose-lose, here. If Brett is reinstated and rides the bench, chants of "we want brett" will be heard for all 8 home games. Aaron Rodgers won't make it out of Green Bay alive. Regardless of the actual outcome, what's better than speculating just a little further in the epic story that has become "the retirement of Brett Favre"? Here is a look at all of the 31 other teams Brett Favre is more likely to play for, and reasons why or why not it will actually happen:

NFC East: Cowboys have deep advantage in tough neighborhood - (08/25)

They seem to have it all. 'Seem' being the big word. For all their depth and talent, the Cowboys haven't won a playoff game in almost 12 years. Clark Judge says, even in a tough division, that 'should' change.

AFC East: Jet Favre a nice story, but Pats still team to beat - (08/24)

Yes, the Brett Favre saga dominated the offseason. But the AFC East crown will again go to the Patriots. Pete Prisco says as long as Tom Brady is upright, the Pats are a lock for the division title.

It's a wrap: Training camps provide plenty of material - (08/22)

After a month on the road, camp to camp, town to town, Clark Judge has a few things to tell you. Eli's ready, look out for Selvin Young and don't bank on Brett. Also, get the blueberry pancakes at the Coal Tower.

Bills holdout Peters making all the wrong moves - (08/21)

Jason Peters needs to be with the Bills. Buffalo needs him, but won't talk extension until he joins the team. Peters is racking up fines and losing ground. Clark Judge has advice -- follow Steven Jackson's lead and show up.

Slighted on his way up, Sanders an inspiration to little guys - (08/21)

Bob Sanders was always overlooked, always told he couldn't play with the big boys. But with belief in himself and hard work, Sanders has become an elite safety, and an inspiration to many, Pete Prisco says.

Next union leader would be wise to learn from Upshaw's legacy - (08/21)

Clark Judge can name some likely candidates, but he doesn't know who will be the next head of the NFL players union. But he knows who should be: Someone forceful who still understands the value of compromise. Somebody like Gene Upshaw, who died Wednesday at age 63.

Remember: Upshaw was a Hall of Fame player before union boss - (08/21)

NFL fans of the past two-plus decades will remember Gene Upshaw in a suit and tie. Pete Prisco will remember him with tape from fingertips to shoulders, clubbing defenders and making it cool to play guard.

Bills burner Evans makes work, not extension, a priority - (08/19)

Lee Evans could be sitting at home, paying the Bills a daily fine while waiting for an extension. That's what teammate Jason Peters is doing. Instead, Buffalo's top receiver is in camp, working hard in a new offense and making Clark Judge a fan.

Bills: Five things to know - (08/19)

Five things to know about the Buffalo Bills heading into the 2008 season.

Bills camp report: New coordinator tries to bring life to offense - (08/19)

The Bills have been trying to find an offense -- and a quarterback to run it -- for years. Enter Turk Schonert, the new coordinator who wants to take the shackles off new No. 1 QB Trent Edwards, Clark Judge says.

    It's a wrap: Prisco's camp tour worth the trips - (08/18)

What did Pete Prisco learn from 13 camps in 20 days? Planes suck, the Colts are really good, the atmosphere of Green Bay is fantastic, Titans rookie Chris Johnson is fast and the Favre mess was a joke.

Flukes? Giants feed off negative vibes of skeptics - (08/17)

They weren't supposed to be able to win Super Bowl XLII. But the Giants tell Clark Judge that those who dismiss them as lucky are just providing the motivational kick to do it again.

Giants: Five things to know - (08/17)

Five things to know about the New York Giants heading into the 2008 season.

Giants camp report: Eli truly arrives at a Super time - (08/17)

Yes, there was the David Tyree catch. But Clark Judge says that was just one part of an amazing late-season run that transformed Eli Manning into the quarterback of the Giants' dreams.

Saints: Five things to know - (08/16)

Five things to know about the New Orleans Saints heading into the 2008 season.

Saints camp report: Sometimes, there's a need to get defensive - (08/16)

Quick, who comes to mind when you say 'Saints'? Brees? Bush? Stop, Pete Prisco says. After an offseason spent on a defensive makeover, you might be singing about Ellis and Vilma in '08.

Vikings: Five things to know - (08/15)

Five things to know about the Minnesota Vikings heading into the 2008 season.

Vikings camp report: Success of Super-loaded roster hinges on Jackson - (08/15)

The Vikings' roster is loaded -- except at QB. Third-year signal caller Tarvaris Jackson is The Man, and we'll find out soon what that means for Minnesota, Clark Judge says.

Texans: Five things to know - (08/14)

Five things to know about the Houston Texans heading into the 2008 season.

Texans camp report: Sorry, Osi -- Mario's just warming up - (08/14)

Skeptics and QBs strewn in his wake, Mario Williams is already one of the league's (No. 6) best players. The best part? At 23 this pass-rush beast could be the one to smash the sack mark, Pete Prisco says.

Sports Appreciation Day: Always faithful to Hawaii Marines and Johnny U - (08/14)

Johnny U ... and the Marines? Unitas certainly had the right haircut, but that's not why Clark Judge associates the Hall of Fame quarterback with the USMC. Because of the Hawaii Marines basketball team, Judge became a fan of sports. He became a pro sports fan because of Unitas. And Clark remains grateful to both.

Sports Appreciation Day: Football won me over with an all-out blitz - (08/14)

Pete Prisco grew up attending Yankees games with his father and brothers, but baseball never stood a chance of winning Pete's heart. Football was king, from getting Jets autographs on a 7-Up carton to scheduling Sunday dinner around the Giants -- to the befuddlement of poor Grandma.

Fantasy building: Ripoffs and bargains - (08/13)

How can fantasy owners construct a solid team through the draft?

    Preseason report: Week 1 - (08/13)

    Preseason can count.

Glaze Across America: Breaking Favre - (08/13)

Jay Glazer was all over the Brett Favre trade story, but you won't believe the Goofy stuff he had to endure, just for you.
