[NFL] Any way you look at it, Favre is one of a kind - (08/25)

We all know who Brett Favre is, what he represents, what team he'll really be remembered by, and everything that has to do with this summer-long saga that has, for the time being, been put to rest. But what you don't know is that Brett Favre is not Joe Montana. Not because he didn't win three additional Super Bowls or didn't have Jerry Rice, but because he, at 38, still has it. Brett is not Dan Marino. Not because he's better in every meaningful statistical category after passing Marino, and not because he actually won a Super Bowl, but because nearing the end of his career, he isn't playing with hobbled ankles. Our beloved number four is not John Elway. Not because the odds are against him to go out on top winning a championship, let alone two in a row, but because he isn't limping into the 2008 season, and he doesn't look like he's 50 when he's only pushing 40. Brett Favre is Brett Favre, and there has been no one like him, and undoubtedly we will never see anyone like him again. And because of that, I will explain to you why Favre and the Jets will shock us all.

[NFL] Fantasy Position by Position: Running-Back Breakdown - (08/25)

Anyone can analyze the quarterback position, mostly because youre usually only looking at one guy under a microscope. But take a look at the Oakland Raiders backfield, even for a second, and you have to start to wonder: Who is the starter, the third down back, and will it even matter? That's what happens when you have a sure fire talent, a couple of injury riddled busts, and a collection of all around solid talent at the position. It's not really about DO you have the talent, it's what you do with it. So, in doing my best from digging too deep in the cookie jar and trying to pretend like the Pittsburgh Steelers' signing of Mewelde Moore will actually shake your fantasy football world up, even a little bit, here is my perspective on each team's running back issues, by player, as insignificant as they may be.

[NFL] Sunday Night Football - (08/25)

To some, Sunday is a time to unwind. To many, it is a day of worship. I spend my Sundays relaxing while praising the football gods. It is an American tradition to participate in the great sport of football. Unlike with most other sports, you do not need to physically be in the game to be a football participant. It is as much of an experience for the player as it is for the spectator. The trials and tribulations experienced by players on field translate to fan emotion off field. Therefore, for this past November's Sunday Night Football game--this  season's undefeated team to beat, the  New England Patriots took on my favorite team, the struggling Philadelphia Eagles--I decided to focus on the onlookers of the game instead of on the game itself (being a fan of the game, this was harder to do than it may seem).

[NFL] 30 activities to pass the time until Kickoff - (08/25)

I've heard that there are two different times of the year.  There is football season, and there is waiting for football season.  With about 50 days left (depending on which day you read this) until the kickoff of the NFL season I thought it would be fun to list some entertaining activities to occupy your time.  Understand that these range from the mundane, to the ludicrous, to "Hey, maybe I could actually do that."  This column is all in fun and some of the activities listed should be performed at the readers own risk (of embarrassment). The following are in no particular order.

[NFL] Hall of Famer For Sale - (08/25)

Finally, we're making some ground. After all of the speculation, the he said, she said quotes and misquotes, we finally know the truth. Brett Favre wants back into the NFL, and the Packers don't want him on their team. While it doesn't appear likely that either side will be changing their mind anytime soon, (Brett is set on returning, and the Packers are focused on Aaron Rodgers) now is the time to start focusing on where Favre will be playing next season. The Green Bay Packers have emphatically stated they will not release Favre, in fear he could go to a rival and beat them twice a season. They probably would be reluctant to let him go to another NFC team, as well, in fear they could meet him in the playoffs. So, what then? Trade him to Baltimore and possibly see him in the Super Bowl? Ted Thompson is truly in a lose-lose, here. If Brett is reinstated and rides the bench, chants of "we want brett" will be heard for all 8 home games. Aaron Rodgers won't make it out of Green Bay alive. Regardless of the actual outcome, what's better than speculating just a little further in the epic story that has become "the retirement of Brett Favre"? Here is a look at all of the 31 other teams Brett Favre is more likely to play for, and reasons why or why not it will actually happen:

[MLB] Week 15 NFL Power Rankings - (12/12)

Boy, was this a strange, and quite honestly, depressing week of professional football.

For starters, we saw virtually nothing out of stars like Terrell Owens, Chad Johnson, and Adrian Peterson. Yet, all three of their teams won without any significant contribution from them.

That is both strange and depressing. But, I guess for those three respective teams, also uplifting.

We also saw three NFC teams clinch their division and a playoff spot (Cowboys, Packers, and Seahawks) while we saw the Cardinals, Lions, Bears, and Eagles all do serious damage to their bids of making a run at the post season.

The question is, was there any good that came out of this week? Why, of course.

The New England Patriots, classlessness and all, stayed unbeaten, while the ever so classy Miami Dolphins found so many new ways to not win a game.

And with those few tidbits out of the way, here are your NFL power rankings for the coming week 15...

    Flying the coop - (12/11)

Bobby Petrino has a rep for keeping one eye on the want ads, which led to him bolting the Falcons after 13 games.

Petrino had doubts about Falcons' roster - (12/11)

Bobby Petrino has a rep for keeping one eye on the want ads, says our NFL Czar, which led to him bolting the Falcons after 13 games.

Second Guesses: Pats offense rolling - (12/11)

With the playoffs long gone, why haven't the Raiders handed the reins to JaMarcus Russell? Something's wrong, Czar says.

    Countdown: Breaking down Week 14 - (12/08)

Pittsburgh's Anthony Smith dissed the Pats' WRs and guaranteed a win. Can he back it up? Czar breaks it down in his Countdown.

    NFL's five most disappointing teams - (12/05)

Reggie Bush and the Saints were picked by some to win it all. That's why they top our NFL Czar's list of most disappointing teams.

    Saints elsewhere - (12/05)

Reggie Bush and the Saints were picked by some to win it all. That's why they top the list of most disappointing teams.

    [NFL] Week 14 2007 NFL Power Rankings - (12/05)

This was just one of those weeks where you know something was off. Something just wasn't quite right. Naturally, it began with Thursday Night's game with Green Bay at Dallas. Brett Favre ran away from the offensive game plan, ignoring the style of play that had gotten his Packers off to a 10-1 start, instead throwing two picks and completing only 5 of 14 passes before leaving the game for good in the second quarter.

I mean, really? Brett Favre. Hurt? And then comes in the odd man out, the guy no one has expected anything from, basically since he was drafted. Aaron Rodgers plays exceptional football and almost wins the game.

Second Guesses: Coaching gaffes aplenty - (12/03)

Tom Coughlin and the Giants came away with a win, but the coach made it more difficult than necessary, our NFL Czar says.

    Countdown: Breaking down Week 13 - (12/01)

A.J. Feeley played great in a loss to the Pats. But Philly will need its D to stay strong against Seattle, Czar says in his Countdown.

Redskins not likely to find another Taylor - (11/28)

The Redskins won't get over Sean Taylor's tragic death any time soon. Not off the field, and not on it either, says our NFL Czar.

[NFL] Week 13 NFL Power Rankings - (11/28)

It's getting to the point where any team can win any game in today's NFL. Sure, that has always been the case, but it's different now. The Patriot's are nearly a given to win every week, and teams like the Packers and Cowboys, and even the depleted Colts, are heavy favorites going into their contests. But outside of them, it's fair game.

This week we saw multiple overtime games, crazy endings, and some players who have been down and almost ruled out for some time, surge back into our thoughts. Those players undoubtedly found themselves a place on someone's fantasy football team, as well, but also found a way to move their squad a spot or two up in this week's power rankings.

    [NFL] Football..Be Not Proud - (11/28)

And the Devil did grin, for his darling sin is pride that apes humility. - Samuel Taylor Coleridge There is a reason why pride is considered the deadliest of the seven Cardinal sins.  Pride causes us to overestimate our abilities and will blur our personal boundaries.  Pride will swell our ego and make us believe things that, in humbler times, we know aren't so.  Pride will take us down a rocky path of failure, to attempt things that cannot be done.

    [NFL] Why I'm not Thankful - (11/27)

Aside from the lovely Thanksgiving Dinner yesterday and a Green Bay Packer win, I am left so very unsatisfied. Once again, Thanksgiving Day Football has left me uninspired and left wanting more. More from the players, frankly, as they have time and time again dashed my hopes of gaining a strategic edge in fantasy football before the Sunday games could come around to us. But alas, like every year during this holiday, the games are poor contests with even worse statistics. Aside for Favre going off like this was his last game on earth, it was a huge bummer. And with that said, here are the 32 things I am NOT thankful for in sports, but most notably the NFL, just one day after the holiday.

Here's how you beat the Patriots - (11/27)

You don't need a sideline spy to beat the Patriots. Our NFL Czar figured it out just by watching the Eagles' near win.

    Caught on tape - (11/26)

You don't need a sideline spy to beat the Patriots. You can figure it out just by watching the Eagles' near win.

Second Guesses: Hester good, Bucs lucky - (11/25)

It wasn't pretty, but it was a win for the Bucs. But why did Jeff Garcia return so late in the game after leaving with an injury, our NFL Czar asks?

    Countdown: Breaking down Week 12 - (11/24)

After a great '06, the Bolts had high hopes. Instead, it's been a year of frustration. What went wrong? Czar looks in his Countdown.

    Going nowhere - (11/22)

The 49ers offense has been stuck in first gear. That's ruined their season — and things may only get worse, says our NFL Czar.

    Going nowhere - (11/22)

No easy fix for broken San Francisco offense - (11/22)

The 49ers offense has been stuck in first gear. That's ruined their season — and things may only get worse, says our NFL Czar.
