Bears Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) - (08/25)
Coach Lovie Smith named Kyle Orton his starting quarterback to give Orton a few weeks to prepare for the regular-season opener, and he responded with a strong effort against San Francisco on Thursday. He completed 10 of 17 passes for 147 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He finished with a 126.3 passer rating. Meanwhile, Grossman turned in his second consecutive lackluster performance, completing 1 of 4 passes for six yards. Granted, Grossman was hampered by poor offensive line play in the second preseason game, but he managed just 74 yards while hitting 9 of 15 passes and finished with a 44.9 passer rating as he failed to lead the offense past midfield in five possessions.

Chicago Bears backup linebacker Rod Wilson left the field on a cart with a broken right forearm in the third quarter against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night. Wilson appeared to come up limping after a running play along the right side with 4:16 left in the quarter. But the Bears said he hurt his arm.

A Conversation With the Gold Rush: Bears and Niners - (08/19)
Recently, fellow MVN writer Samuel Lam and I decided to ask each other a few questions about our respective teams. The Bears play the Niners this Thursday, and I decided to ask Sam a few things about his boys from the west. 1) With O?Sullivan starting against the Bears, are there thoughts of Alex Smith being a bust? - [...]
2008 Preason Game 1 Breakdown... - (08/07)
Did not get much pressure out of middle of DLine Mike Brown took away his side of the field from the opposing QB Starting D gave up a 9 minute scoring drive to start the game Josh Beekam does not look very big at all Kyle Orton looks like he has shortened his windup/delivery Screw Mark Bradley Kyle Orton made some very nice passes OLine giving QBs lots of time to throw tonight Erik Kramer hit it on the head - Rex looks very focused tonight Orton was seen hanging out with the OLine on the sidelines when not throwing The Bears actually scored in the 3rd quarter Hester should have been in the game at WR throughout the second half. Slim Tim.
2008 Training Camp Opens - (07/23)
OK, I have to get these two things off of my chest... Devin Hester is not a Number One Wide Receiver AND Chris Williams signing and getting into camp ON TIME is the lead story of the opening day of camp in Bourbonnais. Now for some more thoughts... I heard from Hub Arkush that Devin Hester was offered a contract that would make him the highest paid Return Specialist ever. He went on to say that it also includes an escalator clause that would pay him more if he produces as a wide receiver. Given that information, I am 100% on the Bears side of this little disagreement. If that is the case, then every day that Devin Hester holds out, I would decrease the offer and not increase it. Because if Mr. Hester is ever going to be a true #1 WR, he needs to learn the position - he has not been anything close to being a WR, but just a gimmick on offense and the worst thing that the Bears ever did was to complete a long touchdown pass to him from Brian Griese because that is the only clip that I have heard on the radio today. I did not hear any talk about how many times he was out of position as a wide receiver and how many times he ran the incorrect route, or how many times he was caught for a loss behind the line of scrimmage on a reverse... Devin Hester should use his God-given speed and sprint to sign the deal that the Bears have offered him. The Bears are not using good judgement if they capitulate and pay him as a wide receiver because he has not proven in college or the NFL that he can be relied upon to be a real WR. Back to the real story... Chris Williams signed on time! That is the best news so far out of camp... I knew that somehow he would be in on time. Very, very good news and congrats to Ted Phillips and Jerry Angelo for getting that accomplished. I now have some hope for the OLine this year... The Marty Booker that I remember can catch the football. That is what I like in a wide receiver - good hands. Now this is a weapon on offense, he is not flashy, never has been and he is not on the time to light up the world. But if he can catch all of the routine passes that Moose Muhammad did not catch, than we are worlds better with him than with Moose. Mike Brown healthy means that this defense will be good again. Mike Brown hurt again means a shaky defense. Alex Brown is the starter on the Right Side of the defensive line and not Mark Anderson. I like Mark Anderson a lot, but Alex Brown makes the run defense much, much better. That's all for now. - Slim Tim.
Forte Signs... - (07/02)
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8091e154&template=with-video&confirm=true So, just one day after posting that the Bear had signed 10 out of their 12 draft picks, the Bears up the ante and sign Matt Forte, their 2nd round pick. Congrats, I have much higher hopes for this Bears running back now that he will be in camp when it opens. Nice work Teddy Phillips and Jerry Angelo!!! - Slim Tim
Three more draft picks reach contract agreements - Chicago Bears - (07/01)
Three more draft picks reach contract agreements - Chicago Bears I have to share this news with y'all... best news from the draft thus far... The Bears have now signed or agreed to terms with 10 of their 12 players chosen in this year?s draft, the most in the NFL. To date, 67 picks from the 2008 NFL draft have signed or agreed to terms with their respective teams. Slim Tim is very happy. I like to see the guys in camp without holdout.
Cedric Benson?HE GONE!!! - (06/09)
I am mixing my Bears and Sox terminology because I just so happened to learn about the departure of Benson while watching the Sox game this afternoon. In all honestly, the last emotion that came to mind was upset. Lets look at Benson’s last couple of weeks. The man gets arrested for boating while intoxicated. Boating [...]
Willams and Forte, Welcome to the Bears - (04/27)
The Chicago Bears selected Chris Williams, offensive tackle from Vanderbilt (6′6″, 315lbs). Bears, thank you for finally drafting according to your need. The offensive line was the most pressing issue, and you really came through on this one. Pleasantly suprised that we picked up a guy who has only given up 2 sacks in his [...]

Quaterback,Runningback or Offensive Line? Which Way Will We Go? - (04/24)
With the NFL draft only days away, the decision as to the most pressing need of the Bears is still a hot issue. The offense is clearly the area that needs the most improvement, but in what facet the Bears feel is the most important is unclear. The offensive line is aging, Cedric Benson is [...]
McGowan Signs 1-Year Deal, Bears Pick Up 3 Picks in Seventh - (04/02)
Safety Brandon McGowan has become a Bear for at least one more year. In his third NFL season, the former undrafted free agent recorded a career high 80 tackles and 2 interceptions in 14 games last season. A healthy McGowan is a good thing to have, as a constantly injury-prone Mike Brown is a toss [...]

NFL.com expert predicts Bears will draft Otah - Chicago Bears So, scout.com has Jeff Otah ranked as the third highest ranked OT in the draft... I of course would like the Bears to find a way to get Jake Long.
Free Agent OL... - (03/29)
So, I am looking around at the free agent OL available... 46 Free Agent OL have already been signed in the offseason including Alan Faneca, Flozell Adams and Jordan Gross. The Bears have not made a single offseason OL signing. NOT EVEN ONE, They don't have a starting RT and they have not made a single offseason signing... There are still 50 agents available including: Chris Naeole OG, JAX Larry Allen OG, SF Wayne Gandy OT, ATL So, the Bears need to sign some veteran OL players as well as address the position in the draft. ST
Bears Draft Needs... - (03/29)
Well, another year another plea from Slim Tim for the draft to encompass Offensive Line talent... So, let me just make sure I am clear again on this topic. THE BEARS NEED OFFENSIVE LINE TALENT, USE THE HIGH DRAFT PICK ON AN OFFENSIVE LINEMAN!!! WE HAVE NO STARTING RIGHT TACKLE AND HAVE NOT MADE ANY OL MOVES IN THE OFFSEASON!!! Here are previous posts on this topic. Saturday, April 21, 2007 Slim Tim will be OK with any pick this year as long as said pick has "lineman" in the job description. Offensive lineman, defensive lineman... 300Lbs or more, Beef. Sunday, February 06, 2005 Bears '05 offseason needs: OT, WR, TE, QB. Friday, January 21, 2005 D?Brickashaw Ferguson - 2005 NFL Draft Prospects: "took the starting left tackle job in camp as a true freshman, and never let it go during his career at Virginia." OOOOOOOh, I wish this guy would come out this year in the draft. He would be a very welcome first pick for the Bears. Exactly what we need, a slam dunk for Angelo, no questions asked, if this guy declares, he is our guy.... - Slim Tim. ST.
Tuna is a whore... - (03/29)
What is the deal with Bill Parcells? He couldn't wait to sign TANK JOHNSON after the Chicago Bears did not want anything to do with him. Now, the cowboys are close to signing Pacman Jones???. As the title points out, Tuna is a whore. I will have more Bears thoughts soon. I have been gone for a while, but I am back...
Trades, Acquisitions, and Hopes for the Future - (03/07)
First, let me start off by saying that I apoligize for my long absence away from the Midway. I truly should have been keeping up with my posts more rigorously than I have been, and am very sorry.

5 Reasons Bears/Saints a Better Watch than Pats/Giants - (12/29)
Sounds like a bit of a stretch right? I mean honestly, the Bears and the Saints combined for two less wins than the Partiots have alone. The Bears aren’t going to make it to the playoffs, so whats the point right? Well there are many reasons why I think this game is going to be much more interesting [...]
NFL Network-Time Warner Close to a Deal? - (12/21)
Yesterday NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a letter to Time Warner’ president and CEO asking for an agreement to allow a 3rd party arbitrator to solve their dispute. In the letter Goodell promised that if Time Warner agreed to the arbitration, that Time Warner would be allowed to carry the Network immediately.
The only string attached [...]
Bears Unable to Battle Vikings - (12/17)
What is there to say. Hey, at least we were leading at halftime right? At least for those twenty or so minutes between halfs, I contemplated the Bears being the most unlikely of playoff contenders. I tried to figure out just how many teams would have to lose and who would have to beat…wait…what was I [...]
Just Lose, Baby. - (12/16)
Anyone who still cheers for Bears victories for the rest of the 2007 season is dumb. The best thing the Bears can do for the rest of the year is lose and lose miserably. The greatest Kyle Orton contribution would be to throw pick after pick after pick and fumble the ball at least four [...]
Playoffs Gone?Time To Experiment - (12/15)
So basically I am hoping that this Bears season can make its way towards a .500 record, but I no longer have any type of expectations for what is to come from this season. We have learned several things during this season however, as we now know that Devin Hester is our savior and that almost no [...]
Bye-bye playoffs, hello off-season - (12/07)
Putrid. Horrid. Utterly pathetic. %$#@*&. There aren’t enough adjectives, adverbs or curses in the English language to accurately describe the Bears’ 2007 campaign. Just when you think the year can’t get any more awful, the Bears turn around and make you think otherwise.
Throughout the first half of the game against the Redskins, the Bears offense [...]
Collins too much for Bears in Thursday night showdown - (12/06)
If there was any doubt the Bears need to draft a quarterback come this spring, they’ve been slapped away now. Lovie Smith trotted out both ineffectual quarterbacks against the Washington Redskins, and the result was 16 points, and the 8th loss of the season, all but assuring the Bears will miss the playoffs.
After Grossman left [...]
Bears vs Redskins: Race to irrelevance - (12/06)
First of all, I’d like to thank the NFL for following Major League Baseball’s lead in attempting to actually anger their fans, always a good business approach.
With both teams 5-7, it’s a safe bet that the Chicago-Washington game isn’t going to hold the interest that a Packers-Cowboys game did a week ago, but with the [...]
Slim pickings get slimmer: Bears in for long off-season. - (12/03)
Hey did you see the Bears game yesterday? They played 50 good/passable minutes of football. How come they lost?
The old adage goes there are 60 minutes in a game, not [number of minutes your team played well]. The Bears proved this point very well, allowing the otherwise inept Eli Manning to storm back in the [...]

Subscribe to From the Midway by Email
Blowing a 16-7 lead by allowing 14 points in the fourth quarter, while scoring none of your own doesn’t seem like an effective way to stay in a playoff hunt. So after the Bears continued to prove they don’t have the stomach to actually win consecutive games once again, [...]
